Storm Cleanup Costing City Over $500k—And It's Still Not Done

Cleanup will last at least the rest of the week, according to the Star Tribune.

If you think you're the last Minneapolitan to have storm-damaged trees cleaned from your block or neighborhood park, you're not alone. According to the Star Tribune, cleaning up from last month's storm isn't going to be done at least until Friday.

What's more, cleaning up after the storm has already racked up at least $500,000 in overtime pay, truck and crane rental fees, and other costs for the city, the paper reports. If the federal government agrees, the city could be one of dozens of Minnesota municipalities to get federal assistance paying for the multiple millions of dollars in damages.

The Minneapolis residents interviewed by the Strib were sympathetic to city workers trying to pick up storm debris.

“You can’t pick up the city in a day,” one said. “You’ve got to give them time. We should just be grateful these trees aren’t on our houses.”
