New Candidate Enters Race for Ward 13 Council Seat

Southwest Minneapolis resident Missy Durant will kick off her campaign June 18.

Candidates for Minneapolis City Council Ward 13 Matt Perry and Linea Palmisano are about to get some new competition.

Southwest Minneapolis resident Missy Durant announced her plans to launch a campaign for the open seat earlier this week. According to a release, Durant will officially kick off her campaign Tuesday, June 18 at Beards Plaisance Pavilion, 4525 Upton Ave. S.

"I love this city, and I want to protect what we've got and preserve the future of this fabulous community for generations to come," Durant said in the release. "If we collaborate, empower people and pay close attention to data now, we can build and execute a plan that strengthens our community for the long haul—by making sure our day-to-day needs are taken care of, by growing our local business base, and by strengthening our educational system."

Durant moved to Minneapolis 10 years ago from Florida for a job opportunity. For the last 25 years, she has worked as a human resources professional, according to the release. Durant and her partner, Samantha, have two children.
