New Fishing Pier Opens at Lake Calhoun

The old dock was damaged beyond repair during the June 21 storm.

Lake Calhoun now has a new fishing pier thanks to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The pier is located just of East Calhoun Parkway near West 36th Street, and replaces the old landing dock that was damaged beyond repair after the June 21 storm. The old dock, which was the oldest on the lake, had already been slated for replacement later this summer.

“I am very pleased that, with the help of the MN DNR, our crews were able to install the new pier very quickly,” MPRB Superintendent Jayne Miller said in a release. “While it’s a little bittersweet to see the oldest fishing dock in our park system go, it’ll be great to see families and anglers using the brand new pier at Lake Calhoun for many years to come.”
