ReplyThat's a horrible intersection and I do wish we could have a turn arrow there. I've seen so many close calls happen and goodness knows there have been enough fender benders.

ReplyThis finally feels like a business that has a chance of sticking around. I have not been there myself but my kids have a few times as well as my parents and my husband. They all came home excited and I can't wait to get there myself!! Now, if they stock yarn....I may have a new best friend.

ReplyRight on, Mel. The kids need to understand that we eat to fuel and nourish our bodies, not to please our tastebuds. If it IS yummy, well, BONUS! But that's not the main goal. My family learned last night that in some countries, people eat mud just so that their bellies feel full because don't don't have real food to eat. Maybe our kids need to be shown just how good they really do have it. Thanks for doing such a great job, Ms. Helgeson!!!

ReplyThis has nothing to do with concerns over tough economic times. I think it has everything to do with parents 1. Not trusting their kids to make wise choices, 2. Parents too soft and not wanting to witness their kids suffer natural negative consequences, 3. Parents feeling guilt if their child makes a mistake that they feel they could have prevented. "Oh, Jr. missed a major test that he can't make up because he forgot to set his alarm? Well I was here and awake and I could have woken him up. It's my fault he didn't get there."
I love the saying, Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll eat forever. I'm in the business of teaching my kids to fish!

ReplyShopping malls can be a fun change of pace where the little ones can alternate between the stroller and toddling on their own two little legs. Parents can get a snack and goodness knows there is a lot to see.
When you ARE stuck at home, it's great entertainment for little kids if you take a under-the-bed storage box and fill it up with dried corn and some cups and spoons for them to play in. Slide it back under the bed when you're done.

Ha, my mistake. I was picturing 57th and Labeaux, a different intersection that seems to have similar traffic issues. Thanks for keeping me on my toes, JT!
