You continue to harp on the vast number of laws that would have to be changed to eliminate the terrible discrimination against polygamists and familials. One word processor and a couple of hours of time by a clerk and it's done. Next?

Consent may be the only restriction to survive, and only because it's so widely used in contract law. Any of the others that you so easily dismiss can still be defended as a choice between consenting adults. Claiming that there's a history of harm or that society has the "right" to regulate it in this or that special case has been so thoroughly refuted by Dan that it'd take months to re-recite the arguments.
Progeny has already been eliminated as a reason for a restriction on marriage so the genetic problems are moot. The way children are raised is a matter of societal definition, what you claim to be a brood mare may be someone elses religious imperative. What somebody might do to their children has already been dismissed as a reason to restrict these fundamental rights. We can go through your lists one by one and as long as it involves a choice made by consenting adults you have no argument. -

I'm sure that there are abuses. The law and society will just have to handle them as they handle all other forms of abuse. Just because some priests molested some children we don't mandate chaperones. Children groomed? You trying to ban home day care? The arguments against polygamy and/or incest are almost always anecdotal, and here's the kicker, They all cover behaviour that is already otherwise illegal. I could go further but just see any one of Dan's thousands of points. Same thing.

Susan, that argument has been trotted out repeatedly and is no more valid than any of the others. There are inequities in any relationship, and involving the government in any of them except for those with consent issues just won't fly anymore. It takes no reaching or desperation, Dan's done a fantastic job of destroying his own arguments.

ReplyThey delivered on their promises and then some. Somebody should have mentioned that while they were redefining marriage they were also redefining rich. It's actually humorous in that it was so very predictable.

Obviously the easiest way to "not be affected" is to move. All in all this was a totally gutless budget from the DFL, with huge rewards for your friends and a knife to the back for the groups who won't vote for you anyway. Minnesotans are getting exactly what they voted for with a little extra besides. Hopefully the people are paying attention. 30 plus million for Minneapolis? Really?

Do you suppose that they just take turns? Bachman should have lost to anybody with a pulse, but the DFL fielded an absolute nobody. Ditto for Franken. I'm still convinced that there were about eight people on the planet that couldn't have beaten Obama, at least on his record, and the republicans managed to find five of them.

Dan, just because somebody says "I can't change" doesn't mean that the cause of their behaviour is genetic. I mean no offense, but if you wouldn't accept that as a reason to be against it you shouldn't try to use it as a reason for it. Maybe it's not knowable, I just have trouble believing that many people are intentionally cruel.

Mike, I need do nothing, certainly nothing as hard as mobilizing the nation. You've done all of the work. Just sit back and wait. The IRS will attempt to disallow the claiming of married filing jointly for three consenting adults. If one of those three happens to know a lawyer who likes publicity? Sounds like a simple case.
