I was born and raised in Connecticut on my grandfather's farm. I joined the 4-H Club when I was ten and at that same age worked with my father who built custom homes and had a concrete-repair business. My father was also a fire chief in our town and the first successful entrepreneur in his family.

I served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-1965 and was stationed in Germany, Berlin, France, and Japan.

After receiving my honorable discharge I was employed at United Aircraft (Pratt & Whitney) as a Master Mechanic Apprentice. I began my college education in 1966. I graduated from Manchester Community College and the University of Connecticut.

I came to Minnesota in 1970 for Graduate School. At the University of Minnesota I was a Spencer Foundation Research Fellow and my work on the merits of traditional and alternative educational systems had a major impact on the educational system in Minnesota. My research helped me become employed by the 3M Company (1972-1976).

I started my own company in 1976 as a full-service training and development company. We market more than 100 different Web-based assessment tools to clients in business, industry, government, and educational organizations and to HR professionals and trade associations around the world.

I was an adjunct instructor at the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul) Graduate School program for five years.

I volunteer my time as a master gardener. I teach a wide variety of community education classes to adults, schools, garden clubs, and to other master gardeners. I have helped establish community gardens around the metro area.

My Japanese gardens have been featured on the Rebecca's Garden television program in 2004, 2006, and 2008. My gardens have also been featured in the Star Tribune, Sun Current, and Edina Magazine. I have appeared on local television and radio programs.

My gardens include 10 water features, vegetable, herb, container, butterfly and hummingbird gardens, Hostas, and tropicals.

My hobbies include writing, gardening, traveling, Bridge, and learning Spanish.
