Ellison Hits Back At Fields Over NoMi Attack

Congressman points to role in securing $28.5 million in grants for the Northside.

Wednesday, Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN) hit back at allegations from Republican challenger Chris Fields that he ignored Minneapolis' Northside. Ellison wrote in an op-ed in the Star-Tribune: We do not have a crisis in leadership. The North Side is working to overcome generations of disinvestment. In his own op-ed, published the day before, Fields accused Ellison of not "making the case for the Northside in Washington." In his response, Ellison pointed to three major grants, totaling $28.5 million, that he helped Northside nonprofits and community organizations secure since 2009. Kenny Resident Helping Uganda Long Before It Was Cool

Steve Conrad has started a company that uses organic cotton and labor from Ugandan farmers to sell t-shirts locally.

In the year since the launch of Southwest Minneapolis resident Steve Conrad's company, Forgotten Shirts, more than 1,000 shirts made in Uganda have been printed by Minneapolis teenagers and sold locally.
