Southwest Residents Swarm Post Office
Yesterday was the last day to file your tax return.
In the last half hour before the post office just west of France Avenue on 49 1/2 Street closed for the day, a couple dozen residents of Southwest Minneapolis and Edina filed into the building, clogging the lobby and clutching envelopes on which they had carefully printed the words “Internal Revenue Service” in blue or black ink. None had apparently signed up for an extension. “I know what this is about,” said Richard Allison, entering the building to mail a letter. “All these people dropping off their stuff late; I mailed my stuff over a month ago.” They weren’t quite late, but almost, with federal and state tax returns due to be postmarked by the close of business Tuesday.
