This tuxedo-wearing cat is looking for a home.
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for Minneapolis Animal Care and Control's Pet of the Week. This week, it's a cat named "Tiny," who wears a tuxedo (of sorts). More pets are looking for homes, though. To see past pets of the week looking for "fur-ever" homes, go to Animal Care and Control's website.

Sally is a 7-year-old Redbone Coonhound looking for a fresh start.
Fall is the perfect time to begin something new and to even find that special someone to brighten up your autumn days. This week we have the perfect special someone that will make this season even more unforgettable for you! Sally was brought to the Animal Humane Society because her previous owners did not have enough time to house-train her properly. The Animal Humane Society recommends setting up a regular routine for outdoor time and even walks coupled with positive reinforcement to help train her to her fullest potential. The AHS Behavior Helpline is also a great resource for helping to train Sally. They can be reached at: 763-489-2202. Sally has lived with the company of children and even another dog and did extremely well in a …

Meet this week's 4-year-old male Labrador Retriever/Border Collie mix dog.
This week's featured pet is extremely well-trained and a bundle of joy! Jack already knows how to follow the commands of “sit,” “shake,” “down,” and “roll over." He can even do them all in that order! He is prized for being so much fun to be around and is extremely smart. He is also naturally sweet and affectionate as a companion. What Jack loves the most is a good ear scratching or a belly rub. He also loves going on walks, which is important because Jack is considered overweight. He needs an owner who will give him lots of exercise and a healthy diet to help him slim down to a healthier size. I imagine Jack would be quite content enjoying the fall weather with a walking partner, and frolicking through the leaves. You don't want to miss a…

Lola is a 2-year-old domestic medium hair cat.
Lola is as lovely as can be! She was surrendered to the Animal Humane Society because her owner was moving out of the country and couldn’t take her along for the journey. Lola will do well in any type of family situation. She is extremely calm, friendly and absolutely loves being petted. She has lived with another cat as well as children and has clearly shown that she loves the company of others. She also has a beautiful orange and white fur that will need to be brushed regularly to prevent matting. Lola is slightly overweight so it would be best to pair her up with someone who can encourage her to be active in the home and feed her a healthy, controlled diet to keep her healthy and happy. Will Lola be your summertime sweetie? Lola's …

This week we feature an adorable 3-month-old beagle mix puppy.
Norma is a young and lively spirit who has an abundance of charm and love. She arrived at the Animal Humane Society with her brother, Norm, who has since been adopted. Now it’s this special little pup’s turn to find a loving home. Since Norma is young, she will need someone who can commit to making sure she is properly house-trained and grows up to be a well-mannered dog. Norma needs a lot of exercise. In fact, outdoor time will be especially important to her as she loves to sniff around the great outdoors. Someone who relishes going on walks and having a playful companion is a perfect match for Norma! Though she loves activity, Norma has also been caught in some very cute sleeping positions in the shelter. Carrie Libera of the Animal …

Amara is a 3-year-old domestic shorthair female cat.
Amara's gorgeous eyes will easily hold your attention and her genuine warmth will keep you loving her for days on end. Amara along with her very own tiny baby kitten were brought to the shelter together. The two were placed in the home of an Animal Humane Society foster volunteer so Amara could continue nursing her kitten. But after several weeks, once the kitten was old enough and gained enough weight for adoption, Amara and her baby returned to the shelter. They were both spayed, microchipped, given all of their necessary vaccinations, and then made available for adoption. The kitten now has a loving home, but beautiful Amara is still waiting for her turn. She is a little shy at first, but once she is comfortable, she’ll snuggle up and …

Meet this week's 10-month-old male hound mix.
This is the perfect time of the year to get outside. But I'm sure most of you have noticed that things are much sweeter and most memorable when you can share the beauty of a day with someone special. Sport is our featured pet this week and he is incredibly playful and a most loyal companion. From chewing toys, to soaking up the rays, going on walks, playing fetch, or sniffing around, he loves it all. Sport is still a puppy, so he would benefit greatly from training classes, which are also offered the Animal Humane Society. Though he is as sweet as honey, some structure and obedience training will help him grow into the best adult dog he can be. If you've been in search of that special someone to sweeten up your summer, Sport is the one …

Meet this week’s 3-year-old domestic shorthair cat.
On a rainy day like today, there’s nothing like a bright, loveable face to take the gloom away. Just take a look at cute Chaplin’s little face and you’ll know right away how he got his name. You’ll quickly find that Chaplin is, without a doubt, a handsome black and white cat with a lot of love to give. Chaplin has been through quite a bit in a short period of time. He was brought to the Animal Humane Society in mid-June after he was found at a public bus stop, along with a few other cats that were placed in a box together. Since then, Chaplin has been adopted out twice. But he has been returned in just a matter of a few days in both instances. He was returned from the first home because he was afraid of the resident dog and would hide. The…
