Want to Pay a Tax on Twins and Wild Jerseys to Pay for Vikings Stadium?

Minnesota legislators are debating a new sales tax on licensed clothing, sports memorabilia and luxury suites to cover the state's share of Vikings stadium construction costs.

Do you want to pay sales tax on Twins, Wild and Timberwolves sports memorabilia and licensed clothing to help the State of Minnesota raise money to build the new Vikings stadium? Matt Birk or Randy Moss? Facebook Map Shows NFL Fan Allegiances in Minnesota

Leading up to the Super Bowl, the 49ers and Ravens have Minnesota pro football fans split on the victor. Two former Vikings standouts, one on each squad, also complicate things.

Even if the Vikings haven't been able to reach the Super Bowl in more than three decades, Minnesota fans have an interest in this year's big game.  Former All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss, who the Vikings drafted in 1998, is lacing up for the San Francisco 49ers Sunday.  Who's your favorite, and why? Make your argument in the comments, below. Meanwhile, Matt Birk, a Minnesota native and longtime Viking offensive lineman, has his first (and probably only) shot at a ring since coming into the league.  A new map created by Facebook's Data Science team shows the 49ers fanbase stretches from the California coast well into the Midwest. But, in Minnesota, there are pockets of Ravens fans begin to crop up. The analysis of 35 million Facebook users…

Should Booze Be Sold on Sundays?

With the NFL season in full swing, we're wondering how Minnesotans feel about the fact that liquor isn't available seven days a week.

The big game is starting in a few hours and you're having a bunch of friends over, so you head to Costco for a bottle of tequila and a 24-pack of Stella. Oops. Not if it's a Sunday and you're in Minnesota. If you didn't plan ahead, you're stuck making the trip to Wisconsin, or organizing an alcohol-related potluck. Or, horror of horrors, getting through the game without "adult beverages." The nonpartisan House Public Information Services Office conducted its 2012 opinion poll during this year's State Fair, and one of the questions concerned whether Minnesota liquor stores should be allowed to stay open on Sundays. More than 9,000 people participated, and quite a majority (63 percent) answered 'yes.' We're wondering what our readers think. …

Stadium Opponents Accused of 'Silence.' Were You Silent?

If you were a stadium opponent, did you speak out? Why or why not?

Tuesday morning, the Star-Tribune accused stadium opponents of being quiet in the face of last week's Minneapolis City Council vote on the stadium deal. Although the issue deeply divided the council and city voters, progressive activists that propelled a stadium referendum requirement into the city charter 15 years ago were largely absent when the provision faced its first real test. Even signs that occasionally appeared at forums and hearings, "Stop Stadium Taxes," were recycled from an earlier stadium push in Anoka County. *** Dave Bicking, a progressive activist who has run for council, theorized outside the council chambers after the final vote that anti-stadium activists are disillusioned by many local decisions that have ignored …
