Heavy Table calls Sparrow Cafe "zen.'
Several weeks ago, we asked whether Lynnhurst's new Sparrow Cafe had what it would take to survive on a corner where its two predecessors had failed. We were optimistic but the proof, as ever, is in the pudding. Local foodie website The Heavy Table popped by the Sparrow recently, and came back with an early review. The pudding, it seems, is looking tasty. (W)hat a relief it is that the new Sparrow Cafe, open since the beginning of the year across the street from Broders’ Pasta Bar, lives up to the ideal, a tiny corner of zen in the middle of South Minneapolis. Find out just what they liked about Sheila and Jasper Rajendren's new coffee shop at HeavyTable.com. If you want to add your own review, check out their listing in our directory and…

Sparrow Cafe opened Jan. 1
Lynnhurst's new Sparrow Cafe has a lot to offer. Maple-bacon doughnuts and other locally-made pastries. Organic, fair trade house blend coffee. Friendly staff and owners. But there's one other thing visitors can stop by and see: a giant mural done by Minneapolis graffiti artists Broken Crow. (Disclosure: Co-owner Jasper Rajendren gave me a maple-bacon doughnut to try while I was taking photos. However, that did not influence my decision to photograph said pastry)

Don't worry, the Kingfield/Lyndale favorite isn't going far.
Anyone who's been in Butter Bakery Cafe around lunchtime can sympathize with owner Dan Swenson-Klatt's predicament. "We've run out of ability to be a coffee shop to during lunchtime and brunch time on weekends," Swenson-Klatt said. "Do you kick out the people who want to eat or the people with laptops?" To the probable comfort of many Butter fans, he can't bear to give up either. Instead, Butter will be giving up its old digs at 36th and Grand for more a more spacious home in the first floor of the Nicollet Square building at 37th and Nicollet. While the cafe won't be able to start construction on their new home until the city's Zoning Board of Adjustment tweaks the spot's zoning to allow enough seating—currently capped at 30 chairs, with …

Find out who you picked as the "Best Coffee Shop In Minneapolis!"
Well, that was conclusive. By a 110-vote margin, Southwest Minneapolis Patch readers have voted Butter Bakery Cafe as the Best Coffee Shop in Southwest Minneapolis. Ever since Butter Bakery surged ahead of its rivals in our poll on Monday, their lead became unassailable. "LOVE this place like no other! Best biscuit and best chai in the entire Twin Cities metro area," reader Milli wrote on Butter's Patch Directory listing. "This place is a gem," reader Sarah Crabtree concurred. Other neighborhood favorites saw spirrited support, though, even if they couldn't muster the votes to beat Butter. Like the Ron Paul of coffee shops, newcommer Adagio Cafe only polled 40 votes, but saw praise like Zev Larcoran's lavished on them. "GO ADAGIO! They …

Patch wants to know which coffee shop is your favorite.
It looks like Butter Bakery has some pretty dedicated fans! They've surged far ahead in our "Best Of" contest, with 91 votes as of press time. Adagio Cafe, Patisserie 46, and Royal Grounds coffee all hover around a distant second place, with between 19 and 24 votes. Voting ends at 9 p.m. on March 8. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on Patch Places. Please vote only once per survey, per Patch. We’ll announce the winner at noon on March 9. Did you also know you can also review your favorite spots on Patch? Hit the links above, or search for them in our directory, and make sure you encourage your …
