Southwest Swimmer Beats Arthritis To Compete at State Championship

Madison Kuznia will be racing in the 100-yard backstroke.

Talk about a triumph of courage. Despite having battled juvenile arthritis for many years, Southwest High School junior Madison Kuznia beat out female swimmers from around the state to snag a spot at state championships. Kuznia will be racing the 100-yard backstroke on Thursday and Friday.  According to the Minnesota State High School League website , Kuznia came in under the wire at Saturday's qualifying round with a time of 1:00:23. It's around a second slower than the fastest qualifying time for the event, but it's near-average for the group of qualifiers.  Kuznia will be representing her entire team at the championships as she races against 30 other swimmers for the top spot on the podium. Southwest Swim Team Going For Section Champs

The Lakers face a talented field in the Section 6AA swimming and diving championships this week.

CHEAT SHEET SITE: Art Downey Aquatic Center, Edina TIME: Nov 10 Swim Prelims: 5:00 pm Nov 11(Diving) 5:30 pm Nov 12 Swim Finals: 1:00 pm ON THE LINE The Lakers face a loaded field in the Section 6AA championships this week. Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minneapolis' South High, Minnetonka and Shakopee are also in this section. Edina and Minnetonka finished first and second in the True Team Sections against these same squads. Edina was second in the True State championships and Minnetonka was fourth. Edina is ranked No. 1 by the Coaches Association and Minnetonka was second.
