New Linden Hills Thai Restaurant Eases Through Wine and Beer Hearing

Naviya's Thai Brasserie is set to open soon in downtown Linden Hills. During a hearing Thursday night, there was no opposition to the restaurant's efforts to add a wine and beer license.

A public hearing was held  for a new Linden Hills restaurant's application for a beer and wine license Thursday. More than 300 residents were notified of the 6 p.m. hearing for Naviya's Thai Brasserie's license by mail. But the audience during the meeting's first fifteen scheduled minutes at Linden Hills Recreation Center consisted of a Patch reporter and Minneapolis license inspector Mohamed Ismail. Absent were any city officials, and even the restaurant owners—Ismail said they thought the meeting was at 7 p.m.   At approximately 6:15, two longtime Linden Hills residents arrived. Southwest Minneapolis Community Comments on Driftwood Char Bar's Proposed Liquor Expansion

The owner of the Driftwood Char Bar, at 44th Street and Nicollet Avenue, wants to expand from beer and wine sales to a full liquor license. Community input came Wednesday in a meeting of the Kingfield Neighborhood Association.

Heidi Fields hasn't yet submitted the paperwork to serve hard liquor at her Driftwood Char Bar. That didn't stop more than three dozen people from attending a a Wednesday meeting hosted by the Kingfield Neighborhood Association to comment on Fields' plans. While comments were mainly supportive of Driftwood, the ghost of the bar that had been in this location, at 44th Street and Nicollet Avenue, was an almost tangible presence. Some neighbors recalled the chaos of the previous bar—one person described it as a "nightmare"—along with a residual element of drug dealing that cost neighbors' piece of mind. Yes, I do. Heidi is a very responsible owner who is reaching out to the neighborhood, welcomes feedback and promises a response to concerns. If the ghost of the previous establishment wasn't haunting her, this would be a non-issue.
