Lent started Wednesday and will continue until March 30, which is the day before Easter. Lent coincides with fish fry season. This year we are providing a one-spot resource for you to find fish fries in the Twin Cities area. In the process of appealing the decision of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis to merge East Harriet's Church of Visitation into the nearby Annunciation Church, the parish renewed its original mission of supporting education.
Donna Lunneborg has been attending the Catholic Church of Visitation on Lyndale Avenue since 1959. Living in a five-bedroom house near Lake Harriet, she raised nine children, all of whom attended the church's school. Some of her children were married in the church. She buried one son there. Even now, when she no longer lives in the neighborhood, Lunneborg regularly makes the trip to Visitation to attend services. But the future of Visitation is unclear. It is one of 21 churches slated to be absorbed by other parishes under a plan released by the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis in mid-October.
