(PHOTOS) Young Artists Beautify Local Alley with Community Mural

The Aldrich Arts Collaborative's Summer Mural Program creates a colorful work of public art at 36th and Bryant.

Passers-by near the busy intersection at 36th and Bryant will now get an eyeful, as kids and staff from the Aldrich Arts Collaborative paint a colorful community-centric mural on the outside wall of Glenn's Barbershop. Once completed, the group celebrated with a Mural Celebration and Street Fair on Saturday, July 30, 2011. The design of the painting is a synthesis of ideas from both Carag community members and the child artists themselves, with guidance from muralist Gustavo Lira and artist Megan Patry.

Actually, the mural is not quite finished yet and also includes pictures of bikes, a skyline and other more urban sights. According to the group, the bikes and planting scenes show the greening of the area and the rising interest in cycling and other sustainable activities.
