Why Does my Indoor Cat Need a Rabies Vaccination?

Even indoor cats need a rabies vaccination. It is not only city ordinance, but it is the safest for your cat and family

Rabies is still a disease we need to be concerned about in Minnesota. In 2012 (the latest data available), 39 bats were found positive in the state of Minnesota. (Click here for the full map: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/diseases/rabies/rabidcty12.pdf). Many of them were in the Twin Cities area. Bats can get into the house, so even indoor cats need to be vaccinated for rabies. If your cat has not been vaccinated for rabies, and has been exposed to a bat, the Minnesota Department of Health may recommend quarantining your cat for 6 months, or in some circumstances, they may recommend euthanasia and rabies testing.
