Pet Safety at Dog Parks

Dog parks can be very enjoyable, but sometimes incidents happen when dogs don't get along. Check out this article to learn some safety tips to ensure a good time for you and your furry friend!

The dog days of summer are also prime time for dogs to get into fights at dog parks.  Monitor your dog and other dogs closely while at a dog park.  Err on the side of caution and leave at the first sign of any concern.  Should your dog get into a fight with another dog, for your safety, do not instinctively reach to pull the dogs apart by their collars.  Instead, you may be able to break up a minor dog fight by making noise or spraying the dogs in the face with water or a carbonated beverage.  The safest way to break up a more serious fight is to have a different person grab each dog by their rear legs and physically pull them apart.   After the dogs are safely separated, exchange contact information with the other owner, and seek veterinary attention for your dog.
