Indoor Cats Need Vaccinations Too!

If you have an indoor cat it is important they receive vaccinations and annual exams too! Read on to find out why.

Why should indoor cats be vaccinated for rabies?  36 bats in Minnesota were found positive for rabies in 2013, and most of those bats were found in the metro area.  Those are just the ones that have been diagnosed, meaning that there are likely many more bats carrying rabies in Minnesota as we speak.  Bats can get inside, and this is the most common reason that an indoor cat can get exposed to rabies.  The rabies vaccine is highly effective, and it is very important that you keep your indoor cat current on the rabies vaccine, not just for the sake of your cat's health, but also for the safety of your family.  Bats that come into the home are of extreme interest to cats, and there is a risk that your cat could get bit by the bat if she came into contact with it.
