Guinea Pigs require Vitamin C in their diet

Guinea pigs need vitamin c added to their diet because they can not produce it on their own. There are many ways to accomplish this, read on to learn how!

Did you know that Guinea Pigs require Vitamin C added to their diet daily?  If they don't, they will get scurvy, a disease in which the blood can't clot properly.  Pelleted guinea pig food has some vitamin C added to it, but it's never enough.  Oxbow makes a good daily vitamin C chewable tab (check out oxbowhay.com).  Alternatively, you can feed a few leaves of kale and/or green pepper slices every day to provide natural vitamin C.  Don't use oranges, they have too much sugar and can lead to overgrowth of bad bacteria in the guinea pigs digestive tract.  Learn more about proper care of guinea pigs by going to Westgate Pet Clinic's website, westgatepetclinicmn.com.
