Does your Dog Have red Spots on their Stomach?

Gnat bites are common this time of year. There is no need for alarm! Gnat bites do not hurt and they are not itchy. Read on to learn more about them.

This time of year, we see a number of dogs that come into the clinic for red spots on the belly.  Although this can be caused by a number of different things, one common reason is grass gnat bites.  These lesions look like flat red, circular spots.  They are not raised, and they are not itchy.  They sometimes will look like a target on the skin, and they will fade within a couple of days.  If you are finding these on your pet's belly, consult with your veterinarian, but if they are grass gnat bites, no treatment is necessary
