What Breeds are at Risk for GDV?

Any dog can get GDV, but at-risk breeds include: Great Dane, St. Bernard, Weimaraner, Standard Poodle and setter breeds; including one study that found Basset Hounds at risk too.

Westgate Pet Clinic is fortunate enough to have great clients; we completed another Laparascopic Assisted Preventative Gastropexy (LAPG) today. We believe this to be a very effective measure to prevent gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) and should be discussed with your veterinarian if you have an at-risk breed.
