Westgate Book Review: The Heart of Horses by Molly Gloss

I read a good book that I would like to recommend called The Heart of Horses, by Molly Gloss.

I read a good book that I would like to recommend called The Heart of Horses, by Molly Gloss. It takes place in a country setting in the U.S. during WWI when able-bodied men are hard to find. Enter Martha, a young horsewoman just trying to make a living training horses for a group of ranchers, but her training style is closer to modern training methods than the "buck them out" method. It has some good elements of adventure and history, incorporating the struggles of German immigrants during wartime, and that of a young woman doing work that was traditionally reserved for the cowboy. You feel like you know the characters well by the end of the book. It isn't a long read, but plan to get hooked and not want to put it down. It is based on the life of the author's grandmother and is a good read, especially if you enjoy riding and training horses as I do.
