Traveling with Pets

Some airlines require health certificates for pets, and the list that does may change on a monthly to yearly basis.

As we head into that time of the year when pets may be traveling more with us, remember to research whether or not you need a health certificate for your pet when traveling either by car or airplane. Some airlines require health certificates for pets, and the list that does may change on a monthly to yearly basis. If traveling out of the country with your pet (or within the United States to Hawaii), research will need to be done early in regards to what vaccinations, tests, microchips, and paperwork are required. It is not unusual for there to be a long checklist of items for airline travel to Hawaii or outside of the United States, and sometimes there is a very strict order in which items need to be checked off. Spending the time now to research your upcoming travel could pay off immensely!  For resources on pet travel internationally, see http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pet_travel/pet_travel.shtml
