A common and dangerous toxin to dogs: xylitol
Some common household toxins to dogs are made well aware of, but there is one that is not.
It's well known that chocolate, grapes and raisins can be toxic to dogs. But, it's news to a lot of dog owners that xylitol, which is found in many brands of chewing gum, mints and baked goods, is very dangerous if eaten by a dog. As little as 1-2 pieces of gum could poison a dog. Make sure to keep purses and pockets containing packs of gum and mints out of your dog's reach!
