Lifeguards On Duty at Minneapolis Beaches Beginning Saturday

Lifeguard hours vary by beach.

Eight of Minneapolis' 12 beaches will have lifeguards on duty beginning Saturday, June 8.

The beaches, which are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, are located at Calhoun, Cedar, Harriet, Hiawatha, Nokomis and Theodore Wirth lakes. Lifeguards will be on duty through Aug. 25, with dates and times of shifts varying from beach to beach:

Beaches: East Cedar, Lake Calhoun Thomas, Lake Harriet North, Lake Nokomis Main and Theodore Wirth.
Lifeguard on duty: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

Beaches: Cedar Point, Lake Calhoun 32nd and Lake Nokomis 50th

Lifeguard on duty: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.

*Lifeguards are not provided at Cedar South, Lake Calhoun North, Lake Harriet Southeast and Lake Hiawatha beaches.

According to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, lifeguard hours will be extended one hour on all days the temperature is 85 degrees or warmer at 6 p.m.  In addition, swimming docks are located at Cedar Point, Lake Calhoun Thomas, Lake Harriet North, Lake Nokomis 50th and Theodore Wirth Lake beaches.
