The Washburn High School football team’s season came to an end on Friday as the Millers lost 49-31 to Holy Family Catholic in the Section 2AAA championship game in Victoria.
The Millers (7-3) won throughout the season with their potent combination of a running attack led by Jeffrey Jones and a solid passing game. That combination was on full display on Friday night.
But Washburn’s defense couldn’t contain the Fire’s offense. Holy Family (10-1) went blow for blow with the Millers through three quarters, then exploded for 21 points in the fourth to pull away.
