Washburn Boys Basketball Advances to Section Semifinals

The Washburn Millers easily defeated the Mound-Westonka White Hawks, on Tuesday night, by a score of 106-80 to advance to the Section 6AAA Semifinals.

The Washburn boys basketball team looked to continue its hot streak Tuesday night as they bested the seventh seed Mound-Westonka White Hawks in the first round of the Section 6AAA playoffs.

The Washburn Millers set the tempo early in the game by pressuring the White Hawks in the backcourt, helping to disrupt their offense. The White Hawks broke the press in the first half, but they failed to execute by hitting open shots when they had the chance. Meanwhile, the Millers took the ball to the rim and made great passes to find open men under the hoop for easy points in the paint.

Washburn led all of the first half by a comfortable margin but never seemed to be able to pull away from Mound-Westonka. The Millers led at the break by a score of 48-38.

The second half was a completely different game as Washburn was able to pull away early and continued to build their lead until the finish. Great pressure defense and efficient offense helped Washburn top 100 points and win by a final of 106-80. Senior Cedric Chappell led the Millers with 20pts on the night.

The Washburn Millers will move on to face the Waconia Wildcats in the Section 6AAA Semifinals on Saturday night.
