Southwest Soccer

The Southwest soccer teams learned of their seedings and first round opponents for the Section 6AA Tournament on Sunday.

Following an 11-3-1 regular season, the No. 10-ranked Lakers boys were handed the third seed for its sectional, with a home game against Hopkins first up on the schedule at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Southwest girls claimed a six seed after a 5-5-3 regular season and will open at No. 3 Hopkins at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Washburn Soccer

Washburn's boys and girls soccer teams will both begin their Section 3A Tournament runs two days earlier than Southwest in first-round matchups.

The Millers girls, who completed a 7-5-3 regular season last week, earned a No. 8 seed and a home game at 5 p.m. Tuesday against No. 9 St. Paul Central.

After a 7-6-2 regular season, the Washburn boys will immediately follow as the No. 7 Millers host No. 10 St. Paul Highland Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Southwest/Washburn Girls Tennis

While the Southwest girls tennis squad survived the first week of Section 6AA Team Tournament play, Washburn was not so fortunate.

The No. 11 seed Millers lost an opening-round match to No. 12 Robbinsdale Cooper on Oct. 5 and were eliminated.

However, the sixth seed Lakers followed an opening-round bye with a 6-0 defeat of Cooper (the last match was suspended on account of darkness) to avenge their fellow Minneapolitans and advance to a sectional quarterfinal at No. 3 Hopkins on Monday.

Washburn Volleyball

The Washburn volleyball team improved to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in the City with back-to-back 3-1 wins over Columbia Heights and Henry on Oct. 4 and 6, respectively.

Southwest Volleyball

A fourth-place finish in the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament on Oct. 8 that followed consecutive 3-0 defeats of Henry and Roosevelt last week boosted the Southwest volleyball team to 15-10 overall and a City-best 7-0 with three conference games remaining.
