Minneapolis Washburn and Southwest squads play an abbreviated schedule before holiday weekend.

The Minneapolis Southwest and Washburn athletic teams got in an abbreviated schedule prior to a long weekend for the Labor Day holiday last week.

Southwest Boys Soccer

The Southwest boys soccer team, ranked second in Class AA, was upset on the road in a 3-2 loss at Bloomington Jefferson last Tuesday before bouncing back with a 14-0 victory at Minneapolis Patrick Henry two days later.

Goaltender Luc Mally has made 10 saves on 13 shots in two games, with netminder Joshua Jones making two saves for the shutout against Henry. Offensive statistics were not made available.

Washburn Boys Soccer

A 1-1 tie at Roseville last Tuesday kept the Washburn boys soccer team undefeated heading into the holiday.

Joey Froelich scored the game-tying goal for the Millers in the contest to give his squad a 1-0-1 record through two games.

Southwest Girls Soccer

The Southwest girls soccer team fell to 0-2 with its second-straight 3-0 loss of the year against Park of Cottage Grove last Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Washburn Girls Soccer

A 1-0 loss at Blake—the fifth-ranked team in Class A—last Friday went down as the first defeat for the Washburn girls soccer team this season.

Two days earlier, the Millers topped Maple Grove, 3-2, at home. The results left Washburn with a 3-1 record heading into this week. Individual statistics were not available.

Southwest Volleyball

Two wins and three losses at the Eden Prairie Tournament on Saturday earned the Southwest volleyball team a sixth-place finish in the eight-team competition.

The Lakers topped Perham (2-1) and Alexandria (2-0) while losing to Hill-Murray and Eden Prairie (both 2-0) in preliminary-round action before falling to Waconia (2-1) in the fifth-place match.

The tournament results gave Southwest a 3-3 record heading into this week. Individual results were not made available.

Washburn Volleyball

The Washburn volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss to Minneapolis Roosevelt in its season opener last Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Washburn Cross-Country

The Washburn boys and girls cross-country running teams competed in the Tiger Invitational at St. Catherine's last Thursday.

Both squads finished fourth in their respective races, with the boys claiming 109 points and the girls 70 points. Individual statistics were not made available.
