Southwest Soccer Faces South For Title

The Lakers, who are hoping to get back to the state tournament, face South in the Section 6AA boys soccer championship game.

THE MATCH-UP
Southwest (13-3-1, 8-1-1 Minneapolis City Conference) vs. South (14-2-1, 9-1 Minneapolis City Conference)

CHEAT SHEET
SITE: Roosevelt High School - Section 6AA title game
TIME: 7:00 p.m. Tuesday
LAST MEETING: Southwest lost to South 3-2 on the road, but won 4-3 at home earlier this season.

ON THE LINE
The Lakers, the third seed in Section 6AA, knocked off No. 2 seed Wayzata on the road 3-0  Saturday to advance to section title game. They face top seed South, who they split their two regular season games with earlier this season. The Lakers are hoping to get back to the state tournament, where they lost to Apple Valley 3-0 in the championship game. They were 22-1 last season, giving up just five goals all year.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Ben Eccles- Southwest goalie
The sophomore goalkeeper has helped lead a Lakers defense that has ten shutouts and is allowing just 1.1 goals per game.

Elliot Cassutt – South attacker
The junior has 12 goals and 11 assists this season. 

LAKERS WIN IF...
They can continue their strong offensive output. They scored 50 goals in their last ten games.

TIGERS WIN IF...
They can keep up their strong defensive efforts. The Tiger defense has allowed just 18 goals  all season.
