Southwest Minneapolis Legion Ends Gopher Classic Run
Southwest Minneapolis finished 1-4 at the Gopher Classic over the weekend in Apple Valley
The Minneapolis Southwest baseball team finished up play in the Gopher Classic on Sunday at Apple Valley’s Legion Field.
Southwest played a pair of games on Sunday, losing to Bemidji 6-0 and Mankato 3-0 to finish the five-game pool play with a 1-4 record. Mankato won the pool with a 3-2 record and advanced to Monday’s round of 16, where the squad will play Osseo at Bloomington’s Red Haddox Field. If Mankato wins, it will advance to the quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
Minneapolis Southwest opened up the tournament on Friday with an 8-3 win over Apple Valley, which took second place in the pool.

But the final two days of the tournament were difficult for Southwest. The squad lost a 2-1 decision to Meridian, ID, on Saturday morning and followed it up with a 3-2 loss to Mitchell, SD, on Saturday afternoon.
The final two losses came Sunday in shutout fashion.

The semifinal round will take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Minnetonka’s Veterans Field. The championship game begins at 2:30 p.m. at Minnetonka.
