Minneapolis Southwest Legion Ends State Run

Southwest fell to New Ulm Gold on Saturday morning and was eliminated from the state tournament

The Minneapolis Southwest American Legion baseball team lost its second game at the Minnesota State Legion tournament on Saturday in Eden Prairie.

Southwest fell to New Ulm Gold 12-2 at Round Lake Stadium, the loss knocking them out from the double-elimination tournament.

The team opened up the tournament on Friday by defeating Eastview 12-8. But Southwest ran into Osseo in the next round and lost 4-2, forcing them into the losers bracket.

New Ulm, which lost its first game 11-8 to Hermantown, bounced back with a win over Bemidji on Friday night before besting Southwest on Saturday morning. New Ulm moved on to face Hopkins on Saturday afternoon, with the winner advancing to within four wins of a state tournament championship.
