Lakers, Millers Get In a Week Of Games Under Sunny Skies

Mother Nature cooperates at last as Minneapolis Southwest, Washburn play a full schedule last week.

With Mother Nature cooperating at last, sports squads from Minneapolis Washburn and Southwest were able to get in a full schedule of contests last week with nary a postponement for the first time this spring.

Minneapolis Boys Lacrosse: Warriors Enter This Week At 2-5

The Minneapolis boys lacrosse team suffered a pair of losses last Wednesday and Saturday to fall to 2-5 on the season.

Following a 6-4 setback at Bloomington Kennedy on May 4, the Warriors dropped a 10-3 decision at Hopkins three days later and have now lost five in a row following two wins to start the year.

Teddy Boivin leads Minneapolis with 10 goals on the spring, with Sam Cotch scoring five goals over seven games.

The Warriors host Robbinsdale Cooper on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Minneapolis Girls Lacrosse: Warriors Go 1-2 Last Week

With a 17-3 defeat of Columbia Heights last Tuesday sandwiched by losses to Minnehaha Academy (10-6) and Hopkins (13-12) last Monday and Saturday, respectively, the Minneapolis girls lacrosse team entered this week with a 4-4 record.

As of the last update, Martha Polacek leads the Warriors with 23 goals, followed by Hannah Hilden-Reid with 22 goals.

Minneapolis is scheduled to host St. Louis Park on Wednesday at Washburn High School.

Washburn Baseball: Millers Split Last Week's Matchups

The Washburn baseball team opened the week in herculean form with a 30-0 win at Roosevelt last Wednesday before falling, 7-2, to St. Agnes at Fort Snelling on Friday to enter this week at 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the City.

Brandon Arms leads the Millers offense with a .565 batting average and two home runs, with Zach Austin's 11 runs batted in pacing the team as are Ricky Borquez's 14 runs scored. 

Trevor Stone tops the Washburn pitching staff with two wins, 18 strikeouts and a 0.70 earned run average.

Southwest Baseball: Lakers Up Record To 8-4

The Southwest baseball team won three of four games last week to improve to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the Minneapolis City Conference.

The Lakers topped Patrick Henry, 15-1, last Monday and Fridley, 13-3, last Monday and Tuesday, respectively, then beat Sleepy Eye-St. Mary's, 3-2, on Friday before falling by a 9-2 score at Prior Lake on Saturday.

Washburn Softball: One Win, One Loss For Millers

The Washburn softball team split its pair of games last week, topping Roosevelt by a 21-5 score on Wednesday and falling 12-1 at Visitation on Friday.

Individual results were not made available. The Millers entered this week with an 11-4 overall record and an 8-2 City mark.

Southwest Softball: Lakers Lose First Two Games

The Southwest softball team lost its first two games last week, yet held onto the top spot in the conference with an undefeated 10-0 City record.

Individual results were not made available. The Lakers suffered non-conference setbacks to Edina (2-0) last Tuesday and Alexandria (12-4) last Saturday and enter this week with an 11-2 overall mark.

Southwest Golf: Lakers Sweep On Thursday

The Southwest golf teams swept a City dual matchup against Edison at Gross Golf Course on Thursday.

Thea Spring medaled for the girls with a round of 49 to lead the Lakers to a 225-296 win, with Tyus Beeson's first-place round of 44 pacing the boys to a 191-219 victory.

Washburn Boys Golf: Millers Top South At Hiawatha

Sam Gutoske's medal-winning round of 47 led the Washburn boys golf team to a 202-217 win over South at Hiawatha Golf Course on Thursday.

Washburn Boys Tennis: Millers Win St. James Tournament

The Washburn boys tennis team won the St. James Tournament on Saturday to improve to 10-4 on the season.

Individual statistics were not available. The Millers topped St. James (6-1), Stewartville (4-3) and Luverne (5-2) for the tourney title.

Southwest Boys Tennis: Lakers Back At .500

With three wins and two losses last week, the Southwest boys tennis team improved to 6-6.

The Lakers defeated Patrick Henry and North by 7-0 scores and topped Minnehaha Academy 4-3, while losing to Robbinsdale Armstrong 5-2 and South 7-0.

Southwest Vs. Washburn Badminton: Lakers 5, Millers 2

The Southwest badminton team defeated Washburn, 5-2, last Tuesday. Individual results were not available.

Results were not available for the Southwest and Washburn track/field teams.
