Lakers, Millers Close Out April

Despite another week of poor weather, Minneapolis Southwest, Washburn sports teams able to compete.

Despite another week of poor weather, sports teams from Minneapolis Southwest and Washburn sports teams were able to get in the bulk of their competitions last week to close out the month of April.

Washburn Baseball: Millers Wrap April With 6-2 Record

With a 2-1 defeat of Southwest on April 28, the Washburn baseball team put the finishing touch on a 6-2 opening month.

The Millers has defeated Minneapolis Patrick Henry, 23-0, on April 25 and lost 9-1 to Minneapolis South on April 27.

Brandon Arms leads the Millers with a .565 batting average and two home runs entering May, while Zach Austin's 11 runs batted in pace the club; Trevor Stone's two wins 0.70 earned run average and 18 strikeouts lead the pitching staff.

Washburn, currently second in the Minneapolis City Conference at 5-2 in league play, is scheduled to travel to Minneapolis Roosevelt on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. game at Bossen Park.

Southwest Baseball: Three-Straight Losses To Close April

With three-straight lossses in the final month of April, the Southwest baseball team enters May with a 4-3 record.

The Lakers lost to South (6-5), Washburn (2-1) and Bloomington Kennedy (8-6) on April 25, 28 and 29, respectively.

Individual statistics were not available.

Southwest, third in the City with a 4-2 conference mark, is scheduled to play at Patrick Henry on Monday in a 5 p.m. start.

Washburn Softball: Millers Enter May At 10-3

 A 9-0 loss to Southwest on April 29 ended the Washburn softball team's winning streak at eight games, yet the Millers finished off the first month of their spring with a 10-3 record.

After defeating Patrick Henry, 26-6, on April 25 and South, 5-1, two days later, Washburn dropped its final game of the month to the Lakers to fall two games behind the Lakers in the City standings with its second loss in conference play.

The Millers are slated to take on Roosevelt at the Pearl Recreation Center at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Southwest Softball: Lakers Take Commanding Lead In City Conference

A 9-0 defeat of Washburn on April 29 kept the Southwest softball team undefeated at 10-0 on the year and gave the Lakers a two-game lead in the city conference standings with a 9-0 circuit mark.

Southwest also topped South (13-3), Roosevelt (18-1) and Minnehaha Academy (8-1) last week in a south Minneapolis sweep between April 25-28.

The Lakers are scheduled to host Patrick Henry at Pershing Park on Monday at 4 p.m.

Minneapolis Girls Lacrosse: All-City Co-Op Improves To 3-2

The Minneapolis girls lacrosse team improved to 3-2 on the year by defeating Woodbury/East Ridge by a 14-8 score on April 29 in its lone game of the week.

Martha Polacek and Hannah-Hilden Reid lead the Warriors with 23 and 22 goals, respectively, this spring.

Minneapolis has three games on the schedule this week: at Minnehaha Academy at 6 p.m. Monday, home versus Columbia Heights on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and at Hopkins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Minneapolis Boys Lacrosse: Warriors Drop Two Straight

Back-to-back losses to Hill-Murray (12-7) and Osseo (10-7) last week dropped the Minneapolis boys lacrosse team to 2-3 this spring with a road game at Bloomington Kennedy scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Teddy Boivin leads Minneapolis with eight goals and four assists, with Sam Cotch and Jacob Ogren posting four goals apiece in five games.

Southwest Girls Golf: Brody Co-Medalist In Lakers' Loss

The Southwest girls golf team lost, 241-228, to St. Louis Park  on April 27 as CeCe Brody earned co-medalist honors with a score of 54 at the Minikahda Club.

Southwest Boys Golf: Demco Medalist As Lakers Lose To Islanders

Austin Demco's score of 43 earned him medalist honors as the Southwest boys golf team lost to DeLaSalle, 186-177, on April 28 at the Minikahda Club.

Washburn Boys Golf: Millers, Tommies Tie In Suspended Meet

The Washburn and Edison boys golf teams tied a suspended meet at 158-158 after six holes on account of poor conditions on April 28. Individual results were not available.

Washburn Boys Tennis: Millers Close April at 6-3-1

The Minneapolis Washburn boys tennis team ended April with a 6-3-1 record with 7-0 shutouts of North and Edison, followed by a 5-2 win over Southwest last week. Individual results were not available.

Southwest Boys Tennis: Lakers Enter May At 3-4

A 5-2 loss to Washburn on April 28, sandwiched by 7-0 defeats to Henry Sibley and Benilde-St. Margaret's on April 27 and 29, respectively, dropped the Southwest boys tennis team to 3-4 on the spring. Individual results were not available.

Southwest And Washburn Badminton: Lakers Enter Final Week Of Regular Season

The Southwest badminton team sits at 8-4 heading into the final week of its regular season after a 6-1 win over North on April 25 and a 4-3 loss to Roosevelt April 27.

The Washburn badminton team lost 6-1 to Roosevelt on April 28.

Southwest And Washburn Track/Field: Girls, Boys Compete In City Relays
