Lakers and Millers Earn Wins, Despite Some Postponements

Athletic teams from Minneapolis Southwest and Washburn get in as many contests as possible while dealing with rain, cold and snow last week.

There were nearly as many postponements as games played for athletic teams from Minneapolis Southwest and Washburn last week, as rain, cold and even snow ganged up on the Lakers and Millers squads with only an abbreviated schedule of matchups being played.

Washburn Baseball: Millers Outscore Pair Of Opponents 36-1

The Minneapolis Washburn baseball team cruised to a 4-1 record last week with a pair of lopsided victories against Minneapolis Edison and North.

After losing its home opener to Minneapolis South on April 11, the Millers have outscored their opponents 50-4 in their four victories that included an 18-1 defeat of Edison on April 18 and an 18-0 shutout of North on Thursday.

Zach Austin leads Washburn with 11 runs batted in and Brandon Arms has six RBI, a team-high 615 batting average and and the team's lone home run.

A Friday game against Minneapolis Southwest was postponed until April 28 on account of rain.

Southwest Baseball: Shutout Improves Lakers To 3-0

A 13-0 shutout of Minneapolis North improved the Minneapolis Southwest baseball team to 3-0 in its lone game of the week.

Individual statistics were not available. The Lakers had a pair of postponed games last week against Minneapolis Edison and Washburn and are scheduled to travel to Minneapolis South for a 4 p.m. contest on Monday.

Washburn Softball: Millers Up Record To 6-2

With wins over Minneapolis Edison, North and Minnehaha Academy last week, the Minneapolis Washburn softball team improved to 6-2 on the season heading into a Monday afternoon home game against Minneapolis Patrick Henry.

Individual statistics were not available. The Millers defeated Edison 20-0 on April 18, North 1-0 on April 19 and Minnehaha 7-5 on April 21.

Southwest Softball: Lakers Remain Undefeated

Decisive victories against Minneapolis North and Edison last week kept the Minneapolis Southwest softball team unbeaten at 4-0.

Individual statistics were not available. Southwest hosts Minneapolis South on Monday and travels to Minneapolis Roosevelt on Wednesday; both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Minneapolis Boys Lacrosse: Enter Week At 2-1

The Minneapolis boys lacrosse team was nipped at home, 5-4, by St. Thomas on April 20 for its first loss of the season.

Teddy Boivin and Jacob Ogren each scored one goal with one assist, with Billy Makholm and Trey McKinney recording the Warriors' other two goals. 

Minneapolis is scheduled to play at Hill-Murray at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Minneapolis Girls Lacrosse: Warriors Split Weekly Matchups

A 19-18 defeat of visiting Hill-Murray on April 19 followed by a 20-11 loss at Bloomington Kennedy the next day left the Minneapolis girls lacrosse team with a 2-2 record on the season.

Martha Polacek leads the Warriors with 18 goals through four games, with Hannah Hilden-Reid netting 16 goals in the same span.

Minneapolis is slated to travel to Minnehaha Academy on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.

Southwest Badminton: Lakers Shut Out Edina

The Minneapolis Southwest badminton team shutout Edina, 7-0, on April 21. Results were not available for the Lakers' April 19 game.

Results were not available for scheduled matchups involving: Washburn badminton, Southwest track and field, Washburn and Southwest boys tennis, Washburn and Southwest golf.
