Washburn Girls Basketball Advances to State Championships
Millers squeezed out a win against Minnehaha Academy this weekend.
Less than a week after the Washburn High School boys basketball team lost a crucial game against Richfield High School, shutting them out of the state tournament, the Washburn girls picked up the championship baton with a 59-52 win over Minnehaha Academy.
The Friday, Mar. 8 victory secures the Millers a spot in the state girls high school basketball tournament.
According to the Star Tribune, the Millers opened a lead over the Eagles in the first half, leaving their opponents trailing 35-29, and managed to hold off their opponents through the second half. Washburn's Chase Coley contributed substantially to the win, scoring 19 points with 5 assists. According to MaxPreps.com, Coley has averaged 19.9 points, 5.6 assists, and 17.4 rebounds per game.

The Miller girls basketball team enters the tournament 22-7 overall, and 12-0 in their conference
Washburn's next stop will be a Mar. 13 game against Sauk Centre at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota at 6 p.m. The Mainstreeters' girls basketball team are 27-2 overall, and 14-1 in their conference.
