Local Elementary School Goes on Broadway

Armatage Elementary students perform today, Thursday and Friday.

Every December, Washburn and Southwest High School students are typically flaunting their artistic prowess at performances across the city.

But alongside the older kids, students from Armatage Montessori are also strutting their stuff at the school's annual "Kids on Broadway" revue.

The performances—Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at 6:30 p.m., and Friday at 7:00 p.m.—are a whole-school affair.

"We've calculated it out, and it's taken something like 1,000 (man-)hours to produce," last year's director Julie Flaskamp said of the 2011 show. "I've been completely exhausted."

This year, students will be staging musical numbers from nine popular musicals, including Newsies, Les Miserables, and The Who's Tommy.
