Education reform efforts in the Minneapolis Public Schools is the subject of a series of community forums presented by the Leauge of Women Voters Minneapoils. The first forum in April focused on efforts to close the achievement gap and drew a standing room-only crowd.
The series continues with “The Educator Pipeline: Training and Supporting Teachers and Principals.”

Speakers are:
- Sandra Vargas (President and CEO, The Minneapolis Foundation, Opening Remarks)
- Christopher Orr (Government Relations Manager, MinnCAN) speaking on Minnesota legislative reform efforts in the areas of teacher evaluation systems, alternative certification and efforts to repeal LIFO
- Susan Heegard (Vice President, Education Achievement, Bush Foundation) speaking on coordination higher education of teachers with needs of K-12 districts
- Emily Puetz (Chief Academic Officer, Minneapolis Public Schools) speaking on efforts to promote academic achievement and accountability
- Louise Sundin (President Emeritus, Minneapolis Federation of Teachers) on the union’s take on reform efforts and the impact on teachers and the learning environment
- Nathan Eklund (Principal, Eklund Consulting) talking about improving school culture by supporting teachers and principals to create humane environments
A third education forum is scheduled for September, and in October the League will host a forum for school board candidates.
