"Elves" Opens Thursday at Washburn High School

The annual ninth grade musical returns with a holiday theme.

This Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, head on down to Washburn High School for a production of "The Elves and the Shoemaker."

The musical is being put on by the school's ninth grade choir and dance company, and is based on the German fairy tale of the same name. In the traditional story, a poor shoemaker hard up for rent money wins the help of magical elves through his boundless generosity.

The tale has spawned numerous renditions and spoofs over the years, including an episode of Muppet Classic Theater where three Elvises show up to help Kermit the Frog, in stead of elves.
