Journey to Israel: Waterfalls, Kabbalah in Tzfat, Rafting and Dinner

Day 3 of the Journey in Israel

Today was a spectacular today for our time in Israel. After eating a hearty Israeli breakfast, our group made way to the Banias waterfalls. Water is vital for life everywhere--how much the more so in a desert country like Israel! The water flows from Mount Hermon and is an important life-giving force to the North of Israel.

After a gentle hike, we traveled to the mystical city of Tzfat (http://www.safed.co.il/). Set high in the mountains, this city is home to a fascinating mix of artists, students, and Jews who study and practice Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism). The photo here is from one of the many synagogues which follow Kabbalah.

We spent the afternoon rafting down the Jordan River (yes, THAT Jordan river). Amidst a fun hour in the blazing sun, I was awestruck by the spiritual significance of the River Jordan. How many of my ancestors had waded across these rocks? Who crossed the river and began a new journey? Whose stories were lost and forgotten in the once raging current?

We began the evening taking a short boat ride on the Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), then eating an incredible dinner at Decks on the shores of Tiberias.

It was a full day: full of exploration, adventure, beauty, spirituality, life, and food. We rest now, and look forward to another full day tomorrow.
