Journey to Israel: North to S'dei Boker & Tel Aviv
next steps on the journey in Israel
Yesterday, we made the journey from the Red Sea (where you can sit in Israel and gaze across the mountains to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, & Egypt) through Mitzpe Ramon crater to Tel Aviv.
Tel Aviv is like being in Europe: lively, diverse, beautiful. Last night we saw a stunning performance of Na LaGa-at, a theatre troupe of deafblind Jews titled, "Not by Bread Alone." It was breathtaking to hear stories of people moving from darkness to spiritual light, naming their deepest aspirations for love and tender community.
Today, we spent the morning at Independence Hall, hearing the remarkable story of Israel's independence and declaration of statehood. Again, more tears of awe and inspiration at the founder's vision, fortitude, and perseverance. Wow!

This afternoon we joined what seemed like scores of Israelis at Nachalat Benyamin, an open market with trinkets, art, food, music--and a foot massage for a weary rabbi!
Tonight, we'll head north to a Moshav for Shabbes dinner and a swim. A very Israeli Shabbat!
