Journey to Israel: Bar Mitzvah, Swimming, & the Road to Jerusalem

The next day on the journey.

This morning we left our beautiful Kibbutz & traveled to the ancient synagogue in Tzippori. There, our beloved Asher chanted from Torah & became Bar Mitzvah. It was breathtaking listening to him chant in this old synagogue, with mosaic tiles on the floor as we gazed out on to the mountains. Mazal tov Asher & family, and thank you for a beautiful morning, delicious lunch, and soulful way to celebrate your emergent adulthood!

Then it was off to a lovely lunch at Kibbutz Lavi, followed by swimming at Gan Sachne, natural pools of refreshing water where Jews, Muslims, and Christians all swim together.

From there, we journeyed down past the Dead Sea & up to Jerusalem. Standing at the look out on Hebrew University's Mount Scopus Campus, we toasted Jerusalem and all her beauty: the history, the people, the art, the creativity, the generosity, the hope.

We arrived at our hotel at sunset, a full day coming to a close and a new one beginning in just a few hours. Our group is delving deeper into the stories of the people of Israel, her history, her hope, her future. We are learning together, asking evocative questions, and working to keep our hearts open to all the beauty around us.
