Thissen Presses GOP on Budget Bills

Rep. Paul Thissen of Minneapolis again pressured Republicans to release their budget targets on the House floor. He's made a number of public requests for these targets in the last few weeks.

Rep. Paul Thissen (DFL-Minneapolis) again expressed concern that Republicans haven't yet released their budget targets, which will provide a starting point for negotiations over which areas will see cuts as the state grapples with a $5 billion deficit.

"Just because the targets aren't public yet, doesn't mean the public is not involved in the process," said Rep. Mary Liz Holberg (R-Lakeville), who said her caucus is working on their bills and would ensure that DFLers had time to add amendments.

Thissen said he's not especially concerned about adding amendments. "It's more making sure that the public actually knows what's in these bills and has the time to weigh in," Thissen said. "I'm getting more and more concerned, the closer we get to this deadline, that is not going to happen."
