Republican Jumps Into Minneapolis Mayoral Race

Friday, Fulton resident Cam Winton tossed his hat into an increasingly crowded ring that already features two sitting City Council members and other prominent community members in an interview with the Southwest Journal.

"I am a Republican and I am happy to speak to people about the principles of private enterprise and personal responsibility that lead me to be a Republican,” he told the Journal. “At the same time I work in the wind power industry and support marriage equality.”

Winton could face a challenge in raising enough money to make his message of private enterprise and making "hard choices about what we can afford as a city." As Patch reported during the last election cycle, some in the city's GOP circles say big-name Minnesotan Republican donors have given up on winning races in Minneapolis.
