Police Blotter: Don't Leave Keys in Your Car

This blotter covers only a fraction of police reports filed in Southwest Minneapolis from March 2-April 3. All details come from Minneapolis Police Department reports.

March 27: A 27-year-old man parked his car, which he left unlocked with keys inside of a jacket in the front seat, on the 4400 block of Pillsbury Avenue South. At 7 a.m., he discovered the car was gone.

March 28: A resident on the 5700 block of Blaisdell Avenue South reported that a someone had broken a window to her garage, stole and bicycle and left through the garage door sometime in the previous 48 hours.

March 28: A car parked on the 3400 block of Humboldt Avenue South was broken into overnight.

March 28: A resident of the 3400 block of Emerson Avenue South heard a noise coming from the southwest window of his apartment and found a young man trying to pry the window open. The young man, who was wearing a black sweatshirt with dalmation prints on it, fled when the resident called police.

March 29: A man who thinks he lost his wallet at 35th Street and Nicollet Avenue said it's been used for $200 of car repairs, $40 at El Paraiso Restuarant and $1 at a Holiday gas station. He also lost $4 in cash.

March 30: An Eden Prairie man parked his car, to which a spare key was kept in the center console, on the 3800 block of Pillsbury Avenue the night before. When he returned at 10:30 a.m., the car was gone.

March 30: A burglary was reported on the 4700 block of Nicollet Avenue South.

March 31: Police were called to Cub Foods at 5937 Nicollet Avenue to accept a $100 counterfeit bill that had been taken the day before. Cub also handed over a $10 bill that had been taken a week before.

March 31: Someone took the wallet and cellphone of a participant in a martial arts class at a performing center on the 3700 block of Pleasant Avenue South. The instructor's wallet was also stolen, according to the incident report. Credit cards were then used to purchase over $200 at Walgreens, $86.20 at Target and $40.89 at a Super America.

March 31: A resident on the 3500 block of Dupont Avenue South started her car, which was parked in a rear driveway, to warm it up in the morning. As walked back to the car, she realized that the front driver's side tire was missing. The back tire was also missing, as were both passenger side tires. The thief left lug nuts on the ground.

April 1: A youth was robbed by two suspects after 10 p.m. on Aldrich Avenue.
