Mayor Declares Minneapolis State of Emergency

Any extension of the 72-hour state of emergency needs to be approved by the Minneapolis City Council.

Minneapolis Mayor RT Rybak the morning after tornadoes devastated parts of North Minneapolis.

The emergency gives Rybak the ability to appoint police officers and retroactively imposes the curfew that was placed on impacted parts of the city overnight. It lays the groundwork for the city to accept aid.

Rybak's declaration today will only last 72 hours from Sunday's storms without a City Council extension. The City Council has called an to discuss the state of emergency for Tuesday morning. Council members released a of the state of emergency.
