Minneapolis Park Board Ponders Letting Boaters onto Lakes on Weekdays
The proposal at Wednesday's meeting would make required boat inspections available at city lakes from 6 a.m.–10 p.m., the Southwest Journal reported. Last summer, inspection stations were closed 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on weekdays.

At their regular meeting Wednesday, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board members will consider a plan to keep boat-inspection stations open at city lakes 6 a.m.–10 p.m. from April 15–Dec. 1, the Southwest Journal reported.

That would close a staffing gap that left boaters without a legal way to put out their watercraft on weekdays from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. last summer, according to the newspaper.

Cost for the coverage: $160,000, some of which the Southwest Journal said might come from other agencies if the park board secures grants.
The inspections are meant to control the spread of invasive species such as zebra mussels.
