Linden Hills, Fulton Councilmember To Head League of Minnesota Cities

Betsy Hodges will be getting a much higher profile.

For the non-policy wonks out there, City Councilmember Betsy Hodges' (Ward 13) election to the presidency of the League of Minnesota Cities on Thursday might not mean too much. 

in the memorable words of Vice President Joe Biden, "This is a big f***ing deal!"

Or, as Hodges herself put it over Twitter after her election: "Really honored to work with all cities for the common good."

While Hodges won't be giving up her City Council seat, she'll start to take on a much more prominent role with the League than she played as its vice president. The non-partisan organization advocates at the state level for Minnesota's municipalities and at the local level for "excelence in local government" and frequently serves as a go-to source for journalists looking for information on their cities and towns.

“It’s a chance to pull allies together on a number of significant issues, including the state-city fiscal relationship, which is my key area of concern both as a council member as a member of the League board,” Hodges told the Star-Tribune on Wednesday.
