Hayden To Face Primary Opponents in SD 61 Race

Political unknowns Kristian Heuer and Sadik Warfa has announced intention to run.

Following long-serving state Sen. Linda Berglin's (DFL — Minneapolis) surprise retirement earlier this week, state Rep. Jeff Hayden (DFL — Minneapolis) announced his intention to run for Berglin's seat almost immediately.

Hayden, who currently serves as Assistant Minority Leader in the state House of Representatives, will face off against two opponents in the September 13 special election primary: Kris Heuer, a graphic designer and Sadik Warfa, who previously ran against state Rep. Karen Clark (DFL — Minneapolis) for her seat in the state House of Representatives.

Hayden and Warfa have filed paperwork for their candiacies, but Heuer had not yet done so at time of publication, despite announcing his candidacy to Senate District 61 DFL party officials earlier this week. The filing deadline for the special election is August 3.
