DFLers Pick Linea Palmisano for Ward 13 Minneapolis City Council Race

Delegates gave her the margin over rival Matt Perry after three ballots, according to Twitter reports and the Southwest Journal.

Ward 13 delegates gave Linea Palmisano the DFL Party endorsement for Minneapolis city council Saturday afternoon, according to a party announcement online and the Southwest Journal.

Palmisano needed three ballots at Washburn High School to achieve the required 60 percent support, Nick Halter reported at swjournal.com, and afterwards she saluted her opponent:

“I know Matt well, and I know Matt will continue his volunteer work in the neighborhoods and do everything that makes the city better,” she said.

The race was much closer on the first ballot, when Palmisano got 162 votes to Perry’s 138 from the 304 original delegates. ... Perry went from 138 delegates to 110 delegates between the first and third ballots. ...

“I’m humbled by your trust and faith in me,” Palmisano said to the crowd.

Ward 13 has an open city council seat this election year because City Council Member Betsy Hodges is running for mayor. Earlier Hodges was one of the DFL mayoral candidates to speak to the ward convention.
